Yoga has been my Dream Come True in recovery! When I first got clean and sober, I needed to get my life together. I had been living unconscious for so long, I did not know how to maintain friendships, jobs or any sort of discipline in my life. I took pride in being a “rolling stone”; that I could fit everything I owned into my little Toyota station wagon and take off whenever and wherever I wanted. I would constantly cancel plans with friends, or worse yet, make plans with more than one person, only to choose the plan I liked the best. Then stand up or cancel with the others. I had no long term friendships with woman. The only way I knew how to have a relationship with a man was sexual. Slowly, I began rebuilding my world. I found an amazing man in the program who respected and cared deeply for me, landed a challenging job that paid really well and began building my support network of recovering woman.  (more…)

“It’s times like these

You learn to live again”

– Foo Fighters, Times Like These

Meditation can be extremely brutal sometimes. I don’t mean brutal in the physical sense, like when our knees hurt from sitting in meditation for hours on end, but rather, I’m referring to the source of our deepest pain—the mental level—the place where things can get really dark.

I just came out of one of those brutal mediations, one that was so difficult in fact, that I found myself wondering, “Is this really worth it?!” Of course, I know that once these intense feelings begin to subside, the answer will unquestionably be yes, but that’s just how bad it can mentally get sometimes when we sit.  (more…)

2012 Fan Q & A with JIM MARTIN, Formerly of FAITH NO MORE

November 13, 2012

After a silence of over a decade, Jim Martin agreed to a Q&A session with fans via a British based fan site. A set of 15 questions were selected by administrators of the fan site from over 500 submissions by fans eager to hear from Jim.

What follows is a Q&A session with Jim Martin, former Faith No More guitar player, songwriter, and producer, and fans of Faith No More.

Some weeks ago, the FNM “fan club guy” was asking about  how  to  contact me, he wanted to talk to me about the fan page.. After several exchanges via email, he and I decided to do a Q&A thing for the fans. My departure from FNM in 1993 was controversial; I left while the band was still at the peak of its success. I am proud of my contributions to the success and legacy of FNM. I appreciate the time and effort it took to put these questions together. Thank you for the opportunity. (more…)
